Born in Nigeria and grounded in African culture, he was raised with an unspoken but powerful ethic: you don't give up, you adapt. He eventually immigrated and built a life rich with diverse experiences that defies singular categorization.
How Inspyr happened
Yinka Faleti's path to founding Inspyr spans nearly three decades of professional experience across the military, law, nonprofits and philanthropy, civic leadership, venture capital, and entrepreneurship, each chapter pulling him further upstream toward greater impact. He began his professional path as a U.S. Army officer, serving six years on active duty, including back-to-back deployments to Kuwait, the second in response to September 11.
After the Army, Yinka attended Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, surviving a broken kneecap on his fifth day of law school and graduating in 2007. He joined a global law firm as a litigator before leaving to become a state prosecutor, securing justice for victims of abuse and assault. But a repeat defendant caused him to realize he was working on the wrong end of the problem. He needed to get upstream.
That realization led him to United Way of Greater St. Louis, where he led organizational fundraising and, over four annual campaigns, led his teams to raise $300 million for the region. In response to the 2014 Ferguson uprisings, he transitioned to executive director of Forward Through Ferguson, to help a region of nearly three million people implement the calls to action from the Ferguson Commission’s report.
Feeling the need to go further upstream, he ran for Missouri Secretary of State in 2020, becoming the first African American man to earn over one million votes statewide in the state's over 200-year history. He subsequently helped found a national, nonpartisan nonprofit focused on electoral reform. He then joined a venture capital firm as partner, backing underrepresented founders, including a startup that was acquired by a major cryptocurrency exchange. Through it all, one calling had been tugging at him since young adulthood—to inspire others through speech. That tug transformed into Inspyr, founded to move people through words that they may reach the highest version of themselves and Become the Improbable.
